| The SQL Developer is responsible for designing and implementing database applications across a variety of web platforms and technologies. The position must also write documentation for new and existing software and design application architecture for future expansion and data/business rule centralization. The incumbent is expected to integrate new applications with existing infrastructure and translate requirements into actionable programming projects and finished applications. This position reports to the Database Administrator/SQL Developer Senior.
This is a full-time non-classified position with full state benefits and is exempt fromFLSA provisions regarding overtime. Base salary for this position is $55,000 though salary is negotiable based on experience and education. This position has been designated as essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM. |

| Required Licenses/Certification | Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or Associate’s degree in Computer Science with substituting years of programming experience. |
| Skills Required | A combination of recent and relevant education and experience may also be considered for this position. • Extensive knowledge of web and database development including internet protocols. • Expertise in ColdFusion Markup Language and AJAX. • SQL scripting and programming in various platforms, detailed analysis and design • Operating system scripting (Windows and Linux environments) • Familiarity with web development using html and web scripting languages (i.e. ColdFusion) • Ability to move to newer platforms such as Angular Java as web development environments evolve • Excellent background in relational database design, including procedures, functions, views, keys and indexes and the ability to integrate disparate data sources. • Programming for mobile applications is a plus • Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities • Ability to meet deadlines under specific project time constraints • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with faculty, staff and students • Organization and management skills |

| Duties and Responsibilities | Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance of Support Servers • Configure and maintain database software (SQL Server) • Create and maintain appropriate backup and recovery procedures for databases andSQL servers • Install, configure and maintain web server software (Apache 2, IIS, and various Java EE containers) Install, configure and maintain application server software (ColdFusion, Perl, PHP, .NET) • Install, configure and maintain 3rd party application software (Track-It!, Jasig CAS) • SQL scripting will be the basis for most development, although a thorough understanding of programming logic and good design practice will be expected. TheSQL Developer will design, create, debug, maintain, and implement programs that interact with multiple SQL Server databases operating on a Windows Server platform. The SQL Developer will maintain skills essential to programming for procedures, packages, triggers within the database and including operating system shell scripting and web based development tools. • It will be necessary for the SQL Developer to learn and gain an understanding of various sub-systems, and provide programming integration and maintenance across all systems. The SQL Developer will be part of the programming team which supports end users in the various departments across campus including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, State-Wide campus, Clinical Evaluation Center and the Business Office. This requires the ability to troubleshoot a variety of complex issues relating to the differing business processes across campus. • The SQL Developer will support programming in relation to the custom Clinical Education databases and their integration with Oracle. This will require close collaboration with other SQL, Oracle and Web developers. A major portion of the position will require development of good end-user reporting, data integrity checking, and forms development for custom applications. • It is expected that the SQL Developer will perform other related duties as assigned or directed. |
