DMI is seeking a full time Oracle Database Specialist to support one of its government clients in West Virginia.

An Entry-Level candidate will be expected to apply fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments.  Entry-Level candidates should possess the ability to work on assignments on their own or in groups with senior-level engineers.

A Journeyman candidate possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments.  Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.  Journeyman candidates operate with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.

General activities expected of the position:

  • General activities expected of the position:
    • Overall Oracle 11g/12c support
    • Develop stored procedures to support business system functionality
    • Develop shell scripts to support database/business system functionality
    • Perform database tuning
    • Develop backup/recovery strategies
    • Ensure patches are up-to-date
    • Provide feedback on upgrade paths
    • Works with project managers, developers, and end users to ensure application designs meet business requirements
    • Ensure database security controls are implemented and provide feedback
    • Participate in database documentation efforts
    • Assists all phases of software systems programming applications
    • Evaluates new and existing software products

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides all activities related to the administration of computerized databases.
  • Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
  • Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.
  • Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
  • Advises users on access to various client/server databases.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to JCL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end (for example:  COGNOS)/back-end programming languages (for example:  SQL).  Performs database programming and supports systems design.
  • Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design.
  • Applies skills, performing duties of the position description for Commercial Off-The Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-The Shelf (GOTS) computer systems.
  • Works closely with team members in other Service Lines (Project Management, Business Analysis, Quality Control, Application Security and Sustainment Operations) to deliver COTS and GOTS solutions to meet business requirements.
Qualifications:

Required Skills:

Must have demonstrated Professional Experience OR Academic Experience in:

  • Developing logical models (diagrams) for the purpose of solving a business or academic problem (for example:  Entity Relationship Diagrams, Component Diagrams, Process Flow Models, Data Flow Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, Activity Models, etc)
  • PL/SQL
  • Bash
  • RMAN
  • Working as a contributing member of a group or team
  • Delivering verbal and written (formal or informal) presentations.
  • Ability to provide support in a 24x7x365 environment

Desired Skills:

Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas serve as candidate differentiators:

  • Agile Development methodologies for software delivery
  • Release Management Best Practices
  • Department of Defense (DoD), Security Technical Information Guides (for example:  Application STIG, Database STIG)
  • Python scripting

End-User experience or  Administration experience with any of the COTS/GOTS products below:

  • Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)
  • Microsoft Project Server
  • SharePoint
  • SQL Server (2008r2, 2012, 2014)
  • IBM Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
  • IBM System Architect
  • Primavera P6 Project Management
